Legal & Privacy
EVEOSINT · Independently operated EVE Online community website.
Privacy, cookies and security
EVEOSINT uses a first-party cookie to remember your choice for up to six months. Essential cookies may also be used when you log in.
If you accept analytics, we record page views, approximate visitor countries and daily unique IP addresses. Audience identifiers use HMAC-SHA-256 with a secret key renewed each day. Raw IP addresses are not stored in the audience statistics. These statistics are kept on our server for up to 30 days and are not used for advertising.
Security and abuse prevention. If we detect abusive activity, we may retain the IP address involved and incident information to investigate the abuse and block further abusive access. Security records without an active block are kept for up to 30 days after the last incident. Blocked IP addresses and their blocking reasons are retained indefinitely while blocked, without automatic expiry or purge. Only an administrator can lift a block. This processing is based on our legitimate interest in protecting the service and applies even if you decline analytics.
You can decline analytics and continue using the site. No audience statistics are recorded for visits where you decline. You can change your choice at any time using the Privacy and security link.
Change analytics preferencesWhat is collected and why
Optional audience measurement relies on your consent. It covers the pages requested, request times, approximate country, response status and timing, a fixed browser or crawler family label, and a daily IP pseudonym. A unique IP is not necessarily a unique person: people can share an address or use multiple addresses. Raw User-Agent headers, search strings and public group access tokens are excluded from these statistics.
Country lookups use a local database. Visitor IP addresses are not sent to an external geolocation API. IP Geolocation by DB-IP, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
To detect excessive requests, bounded request counters are maintained in server memory. Routine requests do not create IP security records. Detected abuse can create a security record containing the IP address, incident timestamps and blocking reason. Security processing is separate from optional analytics.
Retention and access
Daily audience statistics and pseudonymous unique-IP records are retained for up to 30 days. Recent request details are limited to the latest 1,000 entries and expire within 30 days. Analytics identifiers change daily and previous daily keys are removed. The cookie that remembers your analytics choice expires after 180 days, whether you accept or decline.
IP addresses and blocking reasons with an active security block are retained indefinitely while blocked. Active blocks never expire automatically and are excluded from automated cleanup. Only an administrator can lift a block. Security records without an active block are deleted after 30 days without further incidents. Automated cleanup runs regularly, including when no visitors are using the site.
Traffic and security records are accessible only to authorized site administrators. Routine site access logging is disabled at the web server and application access logger; incident records are maintained separately. Historical technical logs created before this policy took effect follow their existing rotation.
Your choices and rights
You can accept or decline analytics and withdraw consent at any time using the preferences link above. Declining does not restrict access to the website. Withdrawal stops future audience measurement; it does not invalidate processing already carried out on the basis of consent.
Depending on the applicable conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, including the CNIL.
